Chedworth Gardening Club (Previously Chedworth & District Horticultural Society) Founded 1880
Introduction
There has been a Horticultural Society in one form or other, in Chedworth since 1880. History records that it may not have been in existence in every year since that time, but Chedworth village has demonstrated a strong interest in flower and produce shows and talks over the years ever since the first in 1881. The centenary of the Society was celebrated in 1980 with a dance after the show.
In 2005, to mark the 125th year of the Society, a collection of themed floral displays representing `Chedworth Through the Ages` was brought together in St. Andrew`s Church, and we hosted Gardeners’ Question Time. In 2020, we had hoped to celebrate our 140th anniversary, but Covid restrictions meant that this had to be postponed until the following year. Despite the wet weather, the show went well and our ‘in house’ Gardeners’ Question Time was a great success.
For the first time this year we are combining our day of NGS Open Gardens with the Show on 24 June. The Open Gardens attracted several hundred visitors the last time it was held. We are hoping for a good turn out of Show entries for our visitors to view!
The Club offers much to interest its members; garden visits in the spring and summer, plant exchanges, compost sales in March and October, and discounts at Burford Garden Centre. Ideas for further activities are welcomed.

Garden Visits
Four garden visits are organized annually, taking place in the afternoon or early evening. Each visit includes refreshments. These visits are extremely popular and are frequently fully booked.
The visits are only open to members. The cost of each 2023 visit is £15.75 in addition to any membership subscription. Booking is online. Details of how to do this are supplied to members.
Those attending garden visits are expected to provide their own transport. If anyone wishes to car share, please contact the visit organizers who can circulate those visiting closer to the time to see if anyone has any spare capacity in their vehicles.
Members will receive details of how to book these visits online.
Plant sales/exchanges
These are held from time to time, in addition to Open Gardens days and at Shows.
